WDR is the regional television program of West German Radio for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which is one of the public broadcasters. The television station began broadcasting in 1965 under the name “Westdeutsches Fernsehen” (WDF). In 1988 the program was renamed West 3 and has been broadcasting under its current name since 1994. In addition to its own news programs such as "WDR aktuell" and "Aktuelle Hour" with several editions daily and the takeover of the Tagesschau, the program is broadcast on weekdays at 10:00 a.m., 6:00 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m. for local time divided into eleven regional programs. The highlights of the program also include various documentaries and magazines. Sports programs and series can also be seen on WDR. The television station's children's program is known nationwide: "The Show with the Mouse", "Knowledge Makes Ah!" and "Käpt'n Blaubär" are produced by WDR.
