TV Globo (formerly known as Rede Globo) is a TV station founded on April 26, 1965 in Rio de Janeiro, by businessman Roberto Marinho. It currently covers the entire national territory with its own and affiliated broadcasters, as well as abroad with Globo Internacional. It has been the absolute audience leader since the 70s, consolidating itself in the 80s and 90s. The flagship of its programming is Jornal Nacional, on air since 1969, one of the oldest programs still on air. In addition to JN, its soap operas and entertainment and sports programs are shown to millions of people every day. There are a total of 5 own stations and 118 affiliates. Rede Globo is also the 2nd largest TV broadcaster in the world, behind only ABC in the United States. In Brazil, TV Globo currently reaches 99.5% of potential viewers, practically the entire Brazilian population, with 122 stations that deliver programming to more than 183 million Brazilians.
