Since 1992, MDR Fernsehen has been the regional television program of the public Central German Broadcasting Corporation for the three states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. Since 1997, MDR television has been ARD's most successful third program. The news program “MDR aktuell” gives viewers the latest news from the broadcast area and from around the world eight times a day. The TV magazines from the state broadcasters “MDR Sachsenspiegel”, “MDR Sachsen-Anhalt today” and “MDR Thüringen Journal” report daily on what is happening in the region. Additional regional programs enrich the program with typical local items from the three countries. The documentary series “History of Central Germany”, the magazines “Umschau”, “Echt”, “Lexi-TV” and “Sport im Osten”, the zoo documentary “Elefant, Tiger & Co.” are influential for the MDR television program. , the afternoon show “MDR at 4”, the political talk “Fakt ist…!” as well as the search program “Kripo live”. The cultural magazine "artour", the inventor magazine "Einfach ingenious" and the programs on social and ethical issues "Nah dran" and "Self-determined!" are dedicated to special topics.
