In December 1984, the public broadcaster 3sat started as a joint project between Germany, Austria and Switzerland. From the German side, ARD and ZDF are involved, from Austria the ORF and from Switzerland the SRF (Swiss Radio and Television Company). The television channel is most influenced by ZDF, as the cable channel ZDF Musikkanal, which was founded at the beginning of 1984, was transferred to 3Sat. As a joint broadcaster, 3Sat shows many productions that previously ran on Erste and ZDF and fit the station's cultural profile. But there are also in-house productions that are shown exclusively on 3Sat. For example, this includes the magazine “Kulturzeit”, which can be seen every weekday from 7:20 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Since 1995, “Kulturzeit” has featured contributions from ARD, ZDF, ORF and SRF, as well as features produced by 3Sat itself. Other well-known in-house productions from 3Sat include the business magazine "Makro", every Friday at 9 p.m., and the knowledge magazine "nano", which highlights topics from technology, medicine, science and research every day. You can also find many different documentaries in the 3sat television program. Films about travel and other cultures, but also about scientific phenomena or social problems, can often be seen.
